The IUCN World Conservation Congress is a pivotal event held every four years, uniting global leaders from government, civil society, Indigenous organizations, business, and academia. It provides a platform to tackle the triple planetary crises: pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change.

The Congress fosters collaboration to set the course for achieving the Global Biodiversity Framework and addressing critical environmental and development challenges worldwide.

A Congress with three components

Forum (9-12 October)The largest knowledge platform on the science, practices and innovation of conservation and sustainable development. Through thematic sessions, the Forum addresses the economic, social, scientific and technical aspects of a wide range of issues related to nature conservation, from wildlife to oceans, protected areas, sustainable businesses, climate change or human rights.

In the Exhibition, IUCN Members and Commissions, businesses, partners, and academia host pavilions, booths and events. The Exhibition is open to both Congress participants and the public, allowing exhibitors to showcase their research, innovations and work to the broadest Congress audience.
Before the Congress, Members can submit motions, nominate candidates for the IUCN Council, comment on the draft IUCN Programme 2026-2029, propose amendments to IUCN Statutes and Regulations and nominate candidates for IUCN Awards. As the IUCN Congress approaches, Members are invited to comment and vote electronically on certain motions. Others will be debated and voted on during the Members’ Assembly, where Members will also elect the IUCN President and Council 2026-2029 and participate in numerous decisions on behalf of the Union.
