What We Want

The GEN Mission

The Global Ecotourism Network (GEN) brings the world’s regional and national ecotourism associations, networks and destinations, together with indigenous and rural peoples, global operators, professionals and academics, to grow the industry, provide advocacy, encourage thought leadership and innovation, and add greater authenticity to ecotourism.

The Global Ecotourism Network will:

Collaborate with the world’s community of regional and national ecotourism bodies to be the global ecotourism umbrella, disseminating ecotourism trends, innovations, applied research and case studies with local-to-national leaders and tourism entrepreneurs.

Be known as the authority for ecotourism and sustainable tourism practices among all consumers by providing thought leadership through education and market demand influence.

Be the tourism differentiator by exemplifying newer, creative socio-environmental interpretation skills; promoting youth-to-elders community involvement; and stewarding conservancy expansion.

Be ecotourism advocates for the industry and its stakeholders by utilizing the unparalleled experience of its institutional and professional members, including researchers, designers, developers, marketers, managers, and ecotourism practitioners.

Build on ecotourism’s legacy by being the think-tank to assist and interpret sustainable tourism development.

Provide an easily-accessible platform and voice for indigenous peoples and rural communities developing ecotourism.

Encourage greater social entrepreneurship through empowerment, skills transfer and capacity building.

Be conservation advocates protecting bio-diverse lands, rivers, lakes and oceans.
